PERI MAUER, COMPOSER: MM, BM Manhattan School of Music, BA Bard College, graduate of the High School of Music and Art, has composed works for solo instruments, chamber music ensembles, orchestra, and theater. Her music has received performances in Bargemusic's Here and Now Labor Day Festival, Composers Concordance Festival 2012, Music With A View Festival 2011, New York Composers Circle Concert of New Music at St. Peter's Church in NYC, Gamper Festival of Contemporary Music in Bowdoin, ME, NYU Composers Forum, Kaleidoscope Concert Series at WMP Concert Hall, Sound Minds:New Music Series at the Living Theater, Manhattan Composers Orchestra, Cross Island, etc. She has composed incidental music scores to several Off-Broadway classic theater productions including Aristophanes' "Thesmophoriazusae" and "Ecclesiazusae", Euripides "The Bacchae", Aphra Behn's "The Emperor of the Moon", and has received grants for her work from Meet the Composer, Composers Guild of Utah, and National Federation of Music Clubs.
Premiere performances of her music in 2011 include her trio AFTERWORDS, for clarinet, cello, and piano, by Cross Island on Jan. 23rd, March 20th, and March 27th, BLOGARHYTHM: Scenes 1 & 2 for 24-piece chamber ensemble (which she also conducted) on April 1st in Music With a View 2011 Festival at the Flea Theater, RHAPSODANCE, for clarinet and piano, on the April 5th New York Composers Circle Concert of New Music at St. Peter's Church, BLOGARHYTHM ON THE ROCKS, for chamber ensemble, as part of Make Music New York 2011 in Central Park on June 21st, and MORNING IN A MINUTE in the October 30th Composers Voice Concert Series at Jan Hus Church, NYC.
She was honored to have had 4 performances of RHAPSODANCE at Bargemusic's Here and Now Labor Day Festival, September 1-4, 2011. In the New York Times review of the concert published September 5, 2011, Steve Smith writes " Peri Mauer's "Rhapsodance", vibrantly interpreted by Moran Katz, a clarinetist, and Alexandra Joan, a pianist, set a tart chromatic melody dancing to frisky rhythms akin to Poulenc."
This past month, RHAPSODANCE received an encore performance at WMP Concert Hall, NYC, with Vasko Dukovski, clarinet, and Alexandra Joan, piano. Peri Mauer's DUTCHESS STARLIGHT REVISITED, in which she also played cello, was premiered on January 29, 2012 in Composers Concordance Festival 2012 at DROM, with Elliott Sharp, guitar and Art Baron, trombone, and her PIXELIANCE, for flute, harp. and marimba was premiered on February 5, 2012 at St. Mark's Church in the Bowery.
Also a professional cellist and conductor, Peri Mauer has performed with such groups as American Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall. Encompass New Opera Theater at Alice Tully Hall, Radio City Music Hall Orchestra, Manhattan Chamber Orchestra, Astoria Symphony, Playwrights Horizons, NYU Contemporary Players, Prospect Theater Company, Manhattan Contemporary Ensemble, American Chamber Opera, etc., and has held the position of assistant conductor of Redeemer Arts Chamber Orchestra in NYC.
