Award winning pianist and composer Misha V. Stefanuk emigrated from Russia
where he studied at the best music schools including Moscow Conservatory
School, Russian Academy of Music and Moscow Studio of Music Improvisation
Art. His teachers included Kirill Volkov, Aram Khachaturian’s assistant for
many years; William Pursell, multiple Grammy nominee; and Dmitry Blum, who
amongst others taught Sergei Prokofiev. |
Stefanuk has won many prizes
including Outstanding College Pianist at Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival and
special prize at Stereotypes and Nations competition in Poland. His book
Jazz Piano Chords, published by by Mel Bay Publications is a best seller and
is available at all major music book retailers. Misha performed at Lionel
Hampton Jazz Festival, Louisiana Music New Orleans Pride and South by
Southwest. |
Misha started playing piano at the age of five, and he composed his first
piece when he was seven. He then entered special music school and studied
classical piano. While in Russia, Stefanuk became very interested in Jazz
and played in a widely successful Ragtime band and a Dixieland band,
Patephone, which toured Holland and Spain.
After coming to the U.S., Stefanuk was selected to be a pianist with two
university big bands and also started his own Jazz trio, Mooseknows, which
released 2 CD’s. Misha’s music is available on MP3.com where his tunes have
reached the top 5 on the traditional Jazz charts multiple times. Currently
Misha performs daily at Nat Sherman on 5th Ave in New York and is a stuff
organist at Mount Carmel Church in Orange, NJ. |
Another aspect of Stefanuk’s artistic personality is composing music.
Stefanuk wrote music for more than 20 theater shows and more than 30 video
projects, including Y2K Survival Guide hosted by Leonard Nimoy, which sold
more than 350,000 copies. The latest appearances of his music on television
were on One Life to Live,ABC network and First Monday, CBS. |
