- Georgia WebbI am a 19 year-old composition student studying at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music. I am currently learning under electroacoustic specialist Anthony Hood, and have previously learnt under Ensemble Offspring's founder Damien Ricketson. Performances of my works have been non-existant outside the confines of the university, but I hope for this to change in the coming years.Dijulation (a contraction of Dijieridoo and Granulation) is an electroacoustic work. My sound sources were a dijeridoo and soprano, and these were treated in many ways using Pro Tools but the focus of the piece is the use of granulation.

It is an instant exploration of string crossing with no added studio effects.

Bass pizzicato snaps and arco harmonic glissandi, performed by the composer, are processed in real time within Kyma. Algorithms include random sampling and playback (forwards and backwards), random cascading echo feedback, random delays, and multiple granulation clouds with random time indices.

- Aleksander PuszAleksander Pusz is an Australian percussionist and composer. He has written music for dance, theatre and television, as well as performing in styles from jazz and flamenco to breakbeat and bellydance. He has been a founding member of two taiko groups, principal percussionist of the Darwin Symphony Orchestra and Head of Percussion at Charles Darwin University. In the name of music, he has bashed up a car, asked a choir to talk and made instruments from 44 gallon drums and wine barrels.This piece is a substantial re-imagining of the middle movement of a piano solo for young students titled "Aldor the Alchemist". Where the original piece obtained its otherworldly sounds by simply keeping the sustain pedal down throughout, this one uses electronic sounds and electronic music's lack of need for countable timing.
- Mary Lou NewmarkMary Lou Newmark, electric violinist, composer, poet, holds Master's degrees in both performance (USC) and composition (UCLA). Her awards as a performer/composer include the 2009 Scandling-Hubin Award in Music Technology, 2004 Herb Alpert Awards in the Arts nomination, ACF grant for her electric violin concerto. As an artist of both words and music, she continues to expand her creativity to include works for theater that combine the performing arts to explore social issues.The title is a line from my original poem about the experience of waking from a vivid dream as the sun is coming up. The half-light glows and birdsong outside reminds the dreamer of her mystical dream birds. I recorded the bird sounds in Southeast Arizona during Spring Migration. Back in Los Angeles, I mixed them with live electric violin, my yard' s wind chimes, processed piano, and percussion. This piece belongs to my recent body of work about nature in relationship to modern man.

- Kraig GradyKraig Grady is a composer who since 1975 has worked exclusively in alternative tuning systems. He has constructed two complete ensembles of acoustical instruments to realize his compositions and has organized and directed players to play them. His work often involves Shadow plays which developed after a decade long work with silent films he made in collaboration with Keith Barefoot.The compostion is composed in an original tuning called Copan. The performer is Lamorna Nightingale who is playing bass flute, flute, wooden baroque flute and wooden piccolo. there is no electronics use on this recording, except for over dubbing.

The lower tones are reminiscent of time spent listening to trains rattle by in Manitoba but the higher pitches areas relate to distant radio pulses and atmospheric noises. Something odd is in those cars being taken where and why? Situated somewhere near the lab that bounced Diefenbaker's voice of the moon? Or Mars?

Australia is well-known for its droughts, and after several months without rain I was forced to ration my water. It was with relief and an echo of anxiety that I heard the sound of water dripping into the tank.

My sounds have been selected for Stramash (a podcast from Scotland), In-Sonora V (Spain), Transonica (Mexico), and MOD (Mexico). I have made live presentations at some places in Mexico in collaboration with visual artists. Now, I'm preparing for Live Coding at CENART.Inimaa Kjixioo means Heart Silence in mazateco, a native language from Mexico. According to the festival, based on number 60, I created a melody using the root and the sixth of chords. A fragment from mexican national anthem is sung by a native girl in mazateco, because I consider our anthem violent, sexist, and intolerant, so noises are trying to coexist with it for letting the melodies emerge. This piece is about music against the extreme violence, racism, and authoritarianism in Mexico.

- John BiggsJohn Biggs was born in Los Angeles in 1932. His father was organist/composer Richard Keys Biggs, and his mother was singer Lucienne Gourdon. He was number 8 in a family of 11 children.. During his youth he received training in acting, singing, piano, bassoon, and violin, and was a member of his father' s church choir. As a performer, he founded the John Biggs Consort, which specialized in vocal chamber music from the Middle Ages to the 20th Century. After attending the EMS 2010 Conference in Shanghai, I was greatly impressed by electroic sounds and the processing of synthesis. Later on I performed the tape music with the students In Gyemyung Univirsity in Daegu city. Now I' m majoring in New media music composition in the graduate school in Hanyang University.This piece represents the very short impression and feelings at the moment, just like taking 'Snapshots'. Especially focusing on my friend's mouth, voice, intonation and conversations, I directly recorded the most of the sounds (Metronome, Femail voice, recorder & triangle instrument etc.) and C-sound programming. - Gretchen JudePerforming artist Gretchen Jude has studied a variety of performance practices with teachers in Japan and the US. Acoustic & electronic sound are often juxtaposed in her work, which explores the borders between human & machine. Gretchen is most concerned with the liminal spaces between natural & artificial, tradition & experimentation, self & other. She has an MFA in Electronic Music & Recording Media from Mills College, as well as intermediate koto certification from the Sawai Koto Institute.This sonic hive of activity comprises the superimposition of several recordings of two brass gongs rolling around inside a piano, on top of the strings. Once set in motion, the wobbling gongs seem to take on a life of their own, producing patterns of subtly-changing sound that extend (in a whisper) for a surprisingly long interval. The sharp yet delicate quality of the sound brings to mind icicles or starched white lace--something beautiful yet slightly fraught. Thus, the image of a beehive.

Her electroacoustic works often incorporate visuals she creates using images ranging from nature to the abstract. Her works have been presented in the Americas, Europe, Japan, and Australasia. She received Composers and Interdisciplinary Arts Grants from the NEA, and received six honorary mentions from Bourges and one from Prix Ars Electronica. Burst begins with fizzing, then turns to dry ice bubbling in water. Hydrophone recordings from the shallows of Tomales Bay, in northern California take over, ending with more dry ice bubbling, then all vanishes into thin air in an instant.
- Frank EkebergFrank Ekeberg (Norway) is a sound designer and composer specializing in acousmatic music. He received an undergraduate degree in music from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) before he went on to pursue a master's degree in electronic music at Mills College in Oakland, California, where he studied composition with Pauline Oliveros and Alvin Curran, and a PhD in electroacoustic composition at City University in London, UK, under Denis Smalley's and Simon Emmerson's tutelageCityFlow is a depiction of the occasional feeling of floating through the myriad of sound impressions in a typical Western major city, ignoring some while absorbing others. There are traffic noises that appear close enough to be dangerous to ignore, while others become just a distant rumble. Sometimes recognizable words jump out of the constant babble of voices as they pass by. In the midst of being bombarded with noise we make sense of it all by drifting between presence and distance.

I often wonder, while continuing to work on sounds, animations, and game programmings in my little world that seems to be constructed with unintelligible music notes." I Love You Love You Not" , a petite sound poem using "I", "Love","You","Note" in Chinese, is completed under the guidance of Dr. Jen-Kuang Chang. It is like a sonic sticky note of my current muddling mind: So many goals to decide and undecided; so many things to do and undo; so many people to love and unlove. My life, maybe just yours, is composed by lots of seemingly pointless choices on the fence of my mind" ¦.and, sometimes, that could be a gleeful thing!
- Lawrence DoltonLawrence Dolton is a sound artist focused on creating engaging, abstract soundscapes built from field recordings and computer generated sounds. Working under the name Alvord Loop, his compositions are derived by manipulating sounds to discover new sounds, patterns, textures, and juxtapositions. Based in Oakland, California, Lawrence splits his time between composing, freelance audio post and sound design for films, sound art activities, and software development projects.A slow walk through the dark corners of a city in broad daylight. Built up from original recordings of a 1960' s 16mm film projector in operation.
- Diego Pinzon GarciaCreated in 2003 by Diego Pinzon, and formed today with Miguel Nova and Jaime Coy, Man On The Living Road is a experimental music with features from, post-metal, free jazz, and ambient, influenced by projects such as Nine Inch Nails, Tool, Michael Andrews, Mastodon, Massive Attack, Mike Patton, Grails and Jukka Rintamaki, combining traditional rock instruments like guitar, bass and percussion, as well as the use of processors and synthesizers, building a based visual content on abstract minimalist geometries , for futher placing of "soundscapes" ready to the interpretation of the viewer without the need to give a direct message.Man On The Living Road creates this geometric based composition using only a guitar, a guitar processor (native instruments, guitar rig) and an Alesis ION synthesizer.
- Soressa GardnerSoressa Gardner is a vocalist, improviser and electronic music composer who collaborates with authors, dancers, visual artists and fellow musicians. She performs regularly with VEE (Vancouver Electronic Music Ensemble), and with two community based improvising choirs: DB Boyco' s Voice Over Mind, and Kate Hammett-Vaughan and Carol Sawyer' s Voxy Music. Soressa' s work is influenced by her studies with composer Peter Hannan and vocal coach Richard Armstrong.Just Like Humans is part of an exploration of music and soundscapes focused on Vancouver' s relationship with city crows and a growing international interest in the intelligence of crows. Having completed a much longer electronic soundscape of stories, poetry and song about crows for Media Arts Committee at CFRO Radio in Vancouver, BC Canada, Soressa has caught the essence of the piece in this sixty-second composition and performance.

- Emily DoolittleEmily Doolittle was born in Nova Scotia and educated at Dalhousie University, the Koninklijk Conservatorium in the Hague, Indiana University and Princeton. Since 2008 she has been Assistant Professor of Composition at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. Her doctoral research was on the relationship between animal songs and human music, a field in which she continues to be active. Other interests include traditional music, community music-making, and music as a vehicle for social change.Shimmering is a short electronic work based entirely on sounds from humpback whales, sperm whales, and hermit thrushes. It was created using Soundhack and Audacity.
- Patricio CalatayudIs an Argentinean composer actually living in Mexico city. He graduated from " ˜Escuela Nacional de Música de la UNAM (Mexico)' (National school of music in UNAM university). And actually teaches there. His work is played in Mexico, Argentina and Ecuador. Also was a participant in numerous festivals of electroacustic music. Now, he is developing an investigation around the concept of " ˜intention' in art."In these times of democracy, Mexico is going towards a crossroad. Is well known that the PRI party is going to win the presidential elections by fraud. Web networks, social networks, etc. are helping to alert the people. This work is a part from the #132 movement created from this actions and is a reconstruction of the wife of the candidate, singing his name. The notion of epicurean nonpartisanship (P. Quignard), plunder phonics (J. Oswald), stuff (M. Heidegger) and others are present.
- Suzy EastonSuzy Priceless, A.K.A. Suzy Easton, is a 29 year old born and raised Vancouverite multi-instrumentalist, improvisor, composer, and most recently, music podcaster/blogger and transcriber. Throughout her life she has learned to play a variety of instruments: piano, classical guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, drums, beginner violin, and mandolin. She has toured across Canada playing bass for Minto, recording an album with Steve Albini in Chicago. She received a certificate in Digital Recording Arts from the now defunct Columbia Academy in Vancouver, BC and completed another Music Technology Certificate in April 2012 from Douglas College in New Westminster, BC.Trying to be creative with looping radio stations and my voice, I became frustrated with myself, stopping the whole process and began singing solo to my dynamic mic, "What do I sing for 60 seconds?" I soon found myself answering, singing, "I sing for freedom, I sing for peace, I sing for love, for you and me" which I ended up looping, singing on top of, and then manipulating the heck out of. for 60 seconds.
- Tomoko MomiyamaTomoko Momiyama is a music composer, dramaturg, and producer of multi-disciplinary art events, installations, and performances. Graduated from Stanford University and currently based in Tokyo, her community-based and site-specific works have been presented throughout Japan and internationally. She weaves folk music of contemporary societies by intervening in the relationships between people and their environments and by engaging people from various backgrounds in the collective processes."A day in Borobudur" is a result of sound exploration with the children of Bhumi Indria, an interfaith kindergarten in Borobudur village, Indonesia. We traveled across heritage site fences to reclaim Borobudur temple as our garden and talked with the reliefs and listened to the sounds around us. "A day in Borobudur" takes us through a day in the village, from pagi (morning,) siang (afternoon,) sore (late afternoon, early evening), to malam (night) in 60 seconds.
- Gil DoriBorn in Israel, 1986. Immediately upon graduating from the University of Haifa, in the summer of 2011, I began my masters program in music composition at Arizona State University. Here, I find myself writing more conservative music. Surprisingly, it is a new and interesting direction for me, inspired by instructors I study with here, such as Dr. James DeMars and Dr. Roshanne Etezady. Many of the works are for the electronic medium, and many others deal with text. Recently I also began to com""Cento, patchwork or quilt in Latin. In medieval music, the term refers to short and concise chants, that were part of the early Mass. Both the text and music of the Centos were composed by selecting bits from an existing verse of a psalm, then putting them together in a new way that corresponds better to the special purpose of the Cento. For this work, I applied the idea of Cento with electronic means, using bits from two guitar pieces by Santiago de Murcia I have recorded.
- Dylan SheridanDylan is a composer and sound artist from Tasmania, Australia. He began his formal studies in composition at the Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music and completed his Master's degree at the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, USA. Also a visual artist, Dylan is interested in expanding the theatrical nature of concert music through the use of image, lighting, musical sculpture and unconventional use of space. His works have been commissioned and performed in concert halls, festivals and living rooms in Australia, the USA and Europe .a musical thought i had when i looked at those sad little hills near my house.
- Madelyn ByrneMadelyn Byrne is an active composer of both acoustic and electro-acoustic music. Her work has been recorded on Innova, Everglade, and New World/CRI Records and has been presented on a wide range of new music festivals. Madelyn joined the Palomar College Faculty in 2000.This piece is inspired by an art collaboration with Lily Glass, which is based on environmental elements.
- Anton KillinAnton Killin (b.1986) is a composer of instrumental & electroacoustic music. Anton is a founding member of contemporary chamber group SMP Ensemble, and a member of three Wellington-based gamelan ensembles, Gamelan Padhang Moncar (Javanese), Gamelan Taniwha Jaya (Balinese) and Gamelan First Smile (Cirebon). Under the tutelage of Jack Body & Michael Norris, Anton completed his MMus in Composition at New Zealand School of Music, and is currently a PhD candidate at Victoria University of Wellington.Absence' is a short work which comprises recorded fragments, some electronically manipulated, of clarinet virtuoso Andrzej Nowicki performing my solo work, 'Primes', which was composed and dedicated to him in 2009.
